KONICHIWA! The Japanese language has 3 writing systems: one system uses Chinese characters and the other two use Japanese syllable characters. The ideograms, which come from China, are called Kanji. The purely phonetic characters developed in Japan are known as Kana, although there is a distinction between Hirgana (complete Kana) and Katakana (partly borrowed characters).
